Position Overview
Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking several mid-level and senior Electrical Engineers to join our growing Calgary team!
The ideal candidates will prepare engineering deliverables including single‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, calculations, specifications, technical requisitions, hazardous area classification drawings, and power system studies (e.g., ETAP), as well as conduct engineering calculations and ensure the accurate application of relevant codes, standards, and specifications.
These roles will also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, construction, procurement, and project management.
Depending on experience, the position may operate at a Mid-Level or Senior level, with increasing responsibility for technical leadership, project ownership, and team mentorship.

Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit’s construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.
Location
This position is based out of Calgary, Alberta with flexible work options. Travel will be required on occasion, including in the US.
Responsibilities
Mid-Level Electrical Engineer
• Execute assigned engineering scope with minimal supervision
• Begin to take ownership of smaller project scopes or work packages
• Support coordination across disciplines and stakeholders
• Perform complex calculations and independently apply engineering standards and specifications.
• Support review of engineering deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
• Interface with vendors to review documentation and ensure compliance with specifications.
• Track personal deliverables and manage priorities to meet project schedule commitments.
• Identify potential scope changes, risks, and technical issues, escalating as needed.
• Support cost-saving and design improvement initiatives.
• Provide guidance and support to junior engineers when appropriate.
Senior Electrical Engineer
• Lead engineering scope for mid-to-large-scale projects or proposals
• Take full ownership of technical execution, quality, and delivery
• Serve as a technical leader, mentor, and key client interface
• Lead and take ownership of project initiatives, including scope, schedule, and deliverables.
• Review and approve engineering and design outputs to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
• Assign tasks to project staff, monitor workload and progress, and ensure alignment with project timelines.
• Lead multidisciplinary coordination and ensure integration across engineering disciplines.
• Represent the engineering team in client, vendor, and project management meetings.
• Lead vendor document reviews, ensuring stakeholder engagement and resolution of technical comments.
• Identify, communicate, and manage project scope changes throughout execution.
• Develop and lead design improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
• Apply innovative techniques and technologies to improve processes and project outcomes.
• Lead interpretation and application of engineering codes and standards (e.g., CEC/NEC, NFPA, API).
• Ensure designs meet budget and schedule constraints, implementing changes as required.
• Lead engineering quality checks and ensure overall design integrity for complex projects.
• Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers.
• Demonstrate accountability for public health, safety, and environmental stewardship.
Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required
• P. Eng designation is highly preferred but not required
• A minimum of 5+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably within power generation, EPC, or industrial environments
• Experience in the oil and gas sector is considered an asset
• Working knowledge of industry codes and standards, including CEC, CSA, and API
• Strong understanding of electrical equipment specifications and design standards
• Exposure to power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, relay coordination) preferred
• Familiarity with ETAP or equivalent power system analysis tools considered an asset
• Ability to work with limited supervision and manage competing priorities
• Demonstrated experience supporting or working in a lead capacity, including providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers
• Experience acting as a team representative, coordinating with inter-discipline and project functional teams
• Experience in client-facing environments, supporting communication and technical discussions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing presentations, communicating technical concepts, and gaining stakeholder alignment
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and stakeholders in both remote and in-office settings
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments, engaging others in problem-solving and initiating discussions to ensure clarity and alignment
• Proven ability to adapt to changing project demands and priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Contributes positively to team and project environments, working effectively with others to achieve shared goals and objectives
