Position Overview

As an entry-level Electrical Design Coordinator, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing electrical calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe.

The Industrial Group projects span markets such as advanced technologies; mining, minerals and metals; process industries; industrial energy; drinking water; wastewater treatment and biosolids; desalination; and industrial water.

Location

This position is based in our Calgary, AB office, with the potential for occasional travel to some of our US-based offices. 

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to design medium to large industrial projects.
  • Prepare electrical engineering deliverables that could include: one-lines, layout, design schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, hazardous area classification drawings, electrical power studies, calculations, grounding studies, systems analysis studies, support low and medium voltage design, etc.
  • Help perform ETP analysis and simulation, system modeling, protection coordination, reliability studies, load flow studies and grounding integrity.
  • Utilize SmartPlant for balance of plant electrical systems design. 
  • Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, performing bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals and developing recommendations for contract award. 
  • Coordinate work with other engineers, designers, project managers, construction personnel and vendors
  • Develop familiarity with departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, and Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering policies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Master's Degree is preferred
  • GPA above 3.0 preferred 
  • 0-2 years of experience working on electrical design for Industrial and/or Water projects
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in CAD software, like AutoCAD and MicroStation
  • Proficient in MS Office suite. 
  • Ability to travel as business requires
