Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a dynamic Traffic Engineer in our growing Design Group in Burnaby, BC. We are an innovative team of engineers and designers that support projects throughout the company. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, roadway, maintenance of traffic (MOT), civil, drainage, and rail disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. Our staff leads and collaborates with internal and external project partners to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.
District Overview
KIE’s Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Our construction-driven engineers analyze root causes and resolve design issues before they impact schedule and budget. Particularly on large design-build projects, clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. Location
This role will be based out of our Burnaby, BC, Canada office with opportunities to travel within the Canada and US regions to projects as required.
Responsibilities
- Produce traffic engineering and MOT designs for North American projects under guidance from technical leads and senior engineers.
- Perform traffic modeling, analysis, and design tasks under supervision.
- Conduct capacity analyses and traffic counts on roadways to determine traffic volume in the field.
- Conduct traffic simulation/modeling software including Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, and other similar platforms.
- Design geometric layouts for permanent and temporary roadways.
- Analyze and evaluate complex design and construction phasing plans to formulate effective traffic engineering and MOT strategies, and to ensure compliance with the feasibility and safety issues.
- Create design concepts and alternatives for traffic signals, signing and striping, and execute final design of project traffic elements such as traffic signals, ITS, signing and striping plans, and MOT plans.
- Performs basic design calculations under the supervision of a more senior engineer.
- Seeks out more experienced engineer for guidance and expertise.
- Learns codes and standards to complete assignments.
- Performs non-routine technical assignments of limited scope.
- Performs tasks according to company procedure, industry codes and regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in civil and transportation engineering industry.
- Travel < 25% expected.
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.
- Participates effectively on teams and accepts direction.
- Eligible to register at Engineer-in-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- Able to manage responsibilities and meet deadlines under supervision.

Base Compensation: $87,000/yr - $91,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
