Position Overview

Environmental Coordinators at Kiewit support environmental management activities for major infrastructure projects across Canada. This role is critical in ensuring regulatory compliance, environmental protection, and sustainability throughout construction activities. The ideal candidate will hold a R.P.Bio designation (or eligibility) and possess strong experience working in marine and coastal environments, including monitoring, mitigation, and stakeholder engagement.

District Overview

This position will start on the Woodfibre LNG project in Squamish, BC, with future assignments across Canada. Rotational travel is required. Kiewit’s Western Canada District is headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia.  We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, marine, and water resources. Our teams build projects across Western Canada and the USA, so a passion for travel and adventure is a must-have.

 

Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance & Monitoring

  • Implement and support environmental management plans, permits, and regulatory requirements for the project.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, focusing on marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with Provincial and Federal environmental regulations, Fisheries Act and marine protection regulations, and other governing bodies. 
  • Prepare and maintain environmental records, reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct environmental orientations and toolbox talks for project personnel.
  • Identify environmental risks and escalate issues proactively.
  • Support incident investigations and corrective action implementation

 

Marine Environmental Management

  • Coordinate and oversee marine monitoring programs, including:
    • Water quality and sediment monitoring
    • Marine habitat protection measures
    • Marine mammal and fish protection protocols
  • Support mitigation measures related to in-water works (e.g., pile driving, vessel activity, dredging).

 

Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders as required.
  • Assist with reporting commitments and environmental communications.
  • Support audits and inspections by regulatory authorities.
  • Compile environmental data and prepare regular reports summarizing compliance, monitoring results, and key environmental indicators.
  • Track environmental commitments and ensure timely completion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, or a related field with ability to act as a QEP an asset. 
  • 3+ years of environmental management experience in construction, heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.

  • Solid understanding of environmental regulations (e.g., air, water, waste, hazardous materials, wildlife, wetlands).

  • Experience with regulatory agencies and environmental permitting processes.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach field teams and influence decision-making.

  • Willingness to travel and work on project sites as needed.

Base Compensation: $85,000/yr - $100,000/yr

  • This position may be eligible for additional pay premiums based on work locations, uplifts, or other variable compensation. 
  • Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location
