Kiewit’s Eastern District specializes in challenging heavy civil construction projects throughout the Northeast, including the metropolitan areas of New York, Chicago, Boston, and Washington DC. Location
This position will be based in Baltimore. Travel or relocation may be required down the road.
Responsibilities
· Perform visual inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) of welds in accordance with AWS, ASME, and project-specific standards.
· Verify welding procedures (PQR’s & WPS’s), welder qualifications, and material certifications.
· Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with approved procedures and safety regulations.
· Perform visual inspections of welds to include: fit-up, root pass, filler beads and cap pass.
· Document inspection results, prepare detailed reports, and maintain accurate records.
· Collaborate with project engineers, quality team, and contractors to resolve welding-related issues.
· Ensure adherence to project safety protocols and environmental regulations.
· Participate in root cause analysis for welding defects and recommend corrective actions.
Qualifications
· Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential from AWS (American Welding Society) – required.
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience in welding inspection.
· Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5 , and other relevant standards.
· Familiarity with various welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) and materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys).
· Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings.
· Excellent communication and documentation skills.
· Ability to work in challenging environments, including elevated structures and confined spaces.
· Must be able to work well and tactfully with welding personnel performing the welding in explaining deficient welds discovered during inspection.

Base Compensation: $95,000/yr - $110,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
