Position Overview

We are seeking a Surveyor to lead field crews executing heavy civil projects in the region.  You will have responsibilities to oversee Field survey operations, which include the following:

District Overview

Kiewit's Southeast District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include building bridges, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams, pump stations or tunnels.  Although most of our work is regionally based in the southeast region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the east coast. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design. 

Location

Various Project Locations throughout the Southeast District.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing the project survey plan specific to field operations in a safe, professional manner.
  • Oversee the operation with periodic reviews of record keeping, field procedures, and survey audits to ensure that all work is performed efficiently and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate and legible field notes.
  • Setting and maintenance of control network.
  • Performing layouts 
  • Spending 80 to 90% of their time in the field
  • Review and interpret contract drawings
  • Manage Survey Requests and schedules to plan layout services
  • Communicate with supervision to coordinate survey work and ensure the work is complete for field operations
  • Ability to interpret and organize data for use in quality assessments, as-built creation, establishing existing conditions and quantity verification
  • Maintain and take accountability for survey equipment and survey vehicles provided.  Prioritize calibration, security, and maintenance
  • The ability and desire to train, mentor, and develop survey crew personnel for advancement
     

Qualifications

  • Must be willing to work 50-60 hours per week, with possible weekend work. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs 
  • Must be flexible with the schedule understanding that early and/or late hours any day of the week are possible) 
  • 3+ years' experience in Construction Survey, Dimensional Control, Industrial Measurement, or a related field is required;  3 + years experience leading Field Crews is required.  
  • Knowledge of various survey instruments, Robotic Total Station, GPS Rovers and Base Stations, Digital levels, and conventional instruments. Trimble experience is a plus
  • Must be able to read construction plans and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to perform calculations (area, volume, circumference, proportion, percentage)
  • Basic computer skills are a must.  Proficiency in Microsoft excel, and Survey-oriented CAD software desired. Trimble Business Center, or AutoCad Civil 3D.
  • Basic knowledge of Machine Control a plus
  • Dynamic thinker with the desire to lead, motivate and mentor teams
  • Self-starter with the ability to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality and productivity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work individually and as a team
  • Committed to working safe and getting the job done right the first time
  • Must have reliable transportation
