Position Overview

We are looking for a Sr. Safety Manager to join our team to support projects in our Industrial and Building markets.  In this role, you will be , tresponsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of all safety programs  for projects that are typically greater than $500M in scope, and your initial project will be valued at over 1 Billion in scope.  We are looking for a strong leader, with experience managing safety for large, complex construction projects with many stakeholders, and large teams.   This role requires excellent communication skills, a strong safety record on prior projects, extensive knowledge of safety regulations, and a proactive approach to risk management in the construction industry, particularly in the vertical building and industrial construction market.

Location

This is a full time role with Kiewit, initially supporting a large project in Abilene Texas for 3 years.  We offer relocation or per diem, with paid trips home.   

Responsibilities

•    Develop and execute a comprehensive safety strategy aligned with project and company goals.
•    Managing the project environmental health and safety programs, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.
•    Compiling, analyzing, and interpreting occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level; recommending process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
•    Routinely inspecting the facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. 
•    Routinely monitoring the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed
•    Developing environmental health and safety training materials to include manuals, brochures, PowerPoint presentations etc. 
•    Developing a paperwork management system to track training records to track all safety training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors. 
•    Interpreting safety regulations for the project.
•    Coordinating and presenting safety training to support client requirements including new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout and repertory. 
•    Interfacing with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) (Provincial or federal) officials/inspectors in the event or a site visit.   
•    Lead and mentor a team of safety professionals.
•    Conduct high-level safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
•    Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations.
•    Direct incident investigations and oversee the development of corrective action plans.
•    Provide executive-level reports on safety performance and metrics for the project.
•    Collaborate with senior management and project teams to integrate safety into all aspects of the project.
•    Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in safety practices.
•    Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
•    Minimum of 20+ years of experience in safety management within the self-perform construction industry, with a focus on vertical building projects.  Experience with Data Center projects preferred.
•    Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification preferred.
•    Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
•    Proven leadership and team management skills.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
