Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Piping Superintendent to lead field teams and support projects across Kiewit’s Industrial District, overseeing piping installation and construction activities on self-performed projects. In this role, you will provide daily supervision, coaching, and training to craft personnel, while conducting regular inspections to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
You will serve as a key liaison between construction teams, subcontractors, and equipment vendors, coordinating activities and resolving issues that arise in the field. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and close collaboration with engineering teams to address complex piping and construction challenges, particularly within heavy industrial environments such as refineries, petrochemical facilities, and manufacturing plants.

Location
This position will be located on one of our project sites so you must be open to traveling and going wherever the project is located.
Responsibilities
- Lead the piping scope of a project as the Superintendent, managing foremen and piping craft workers while driving performance across productivity, safety, quality, and schedule adherence on heavy industrial construction projects.
- Serve as the liaison between field engineering and craft to ensure compliance with construction drawings, specifications, and installation standards. Work closely with the Project Manager (PM), Construction Manager (CM), and technical teams to proactively address piping-related engineering challenges that arise during construction.
- Coordinate and interface effectively with other superintendents, subcontractors, inspection agencies, clients, and Kiewit leadership to maintain efficient workflow, sequencing, and schedule alignment across all disciplines on site.
- Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and workforce scheduling challenges, escalating to project or corporate leadership when appropriate.
- Assist in project planning efforts, including development of schedules, determining craft labor needs, material quantities, and equipment requirements specific to piping systems such as process piping, utility piping, and large-bore installations.
- Ensure all project rules, procedures, and programs are consistently followed, including those related to safety, attendance, and workplace conduct, in alignment with Kiewit’s policies on safety, non-harassment, and nondiscrimination.
- Establish and manage budget expectations for the piping scope, ensuring cost control measures are implemented and maintained throughout project execution. Promote jobsite safety culture by providing ongoing training, awareness, and leadership to all personnel.
- Set and enforce quality standards for all piping work activities, ensuring compliance with code requirements, client specifications, and Kiewit quality expectations. Develop and manage detailed lookahead schedules (e.g., three-week, 90-day, manpower loading), coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers, and ensure all required inspections and testing activities are properly scheduled and executed.
Qualifications
- Must have 5+ years’ work experience in the self-perform construction industry, with at least 3+ years in a Superintendent role, where you are managing foremen and piping or mechanical craft employees.
- Must have an understanding of state license requirements for journeymen to apprentice ratios necessary to perform piping work in a particular state.
- Must have 3+ years previous knowledge and work experience within piping construction.
- Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines: safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings, procurement, estimating
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently supervise and evaluate craft performance.
- Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative; great leadership skills with the ability to mentor and grow our employees.
- Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
