Position Overview
The Materials Superintendent provides on-site leadership and oversight of all warehouse, laydown yard, and material control operations supporting a large-scale data center construction project. This role is highly field-driven and operational, with direct responsibility for material receipt, storage, inventory control, and coordinated delivery to the jobsite to ensure seamless and uninterrupted construction execution.
This position functions as the on-site material authority, leading day-to-day laydown yard operations, supervising material handling activities, and coordinating closely with project leadership, trade partners, vendors, and logistics teams.

Location
This role is based in Abilene, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all material control operations, including warehouse and laydown yard activities for a major construction project
- Oversee laydown yard setup, organization, and daily operations, ensuring efficient material flow and accessibility
- Supervise material handling activities, including use of telehandlers, cranes, and other equipment for movement of construction materials
- Manage receipt, inspection, storage, tracking, and distribution of key construction commodities, including:
- Pipe
- Structural steel
- Electrical materials
- Mechanical equipment
- Coordinate field material deliveries to support construction sequencing and prevent work stoppages
- Maintain accurate inventory control systems, tracking all inbound/outbound materials and minimizing loss or damage
- Direct and support personnel involved in material handling, warehouse operations, and yard logistics
- Coordinate with procurement, vendors, and logistics teams to expedite material deliveries and resolve shortages or issues
- Ensure proper storage, care, and preservation of materials in varying site conditions
- Oversee project support operations such as site logistics, temporary facilities, dumpsters, fencing, and signage
- Lead mobilization and demobilization of warehouse and laydown yard operations
- Enforce site-specific material management procedures and safety standards
- Conduct audits and ensure compliance with project material control processes
- Partner with project leadership and trade partners to align material planning with construction schedules
- Communicate and enforce material management procedures to project team.
- Relocate for long-term and short-term field assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent degree and/or a minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience of large construction project purchasing material control
- 5–10+ years of experience in material management, warehouse operations, or construction logistics on large-scale industrial or data center projects
- Strong experience managing laydown yard operations and material flow in the fieldHands-on experience operating or coordinating material handling equipment (telehandlers, cranes, etc.)
- Proven experience managing construction materials such as pipe, steel, electrical, and mechanical componentsKnowledge of material control systems, inventory tracking, and procurement coordination
- Ability to lead field teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; SAP experience preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel and relocate for project assignments
Working Conditions
- Primarily field-based role in an active construction environment
- Extended work hours, including nights and weekends as required
- May work in varying weather conditions and across multiple site locations
