Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking an experienced Fiber Superintendent to lead field execution for fiber optic installation on a large-scale data center project. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of OSP and/or ISP fiber construction, driving safety, quality, and production across multiple crews and subcontractors.

The ideal candidate brings strong field leadership experience within telecommunications infrastructure and mission critical environments, with the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute complex fiber installation scopes while maintaining aggressive schedules and high-quality standards.

Location

This role is based in Abilene, Texas. 

Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Execution

  • Provide direct oversight of OSP and ISP fiber installation crews, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project requirements
  • Manage daily construction activities including conduit and innerduct installation

 

Fiber pulling and routing

  • Rack and cabinet installation
  • Fiber splicing and testing operations
  • Coordinate field activities across multiple crews to maintain production targets and schedule adherence

 

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion Kiewit’s safety-first culture, ensuring all work is executed in compliance with site safety standards and procedures
  • Conduct daily field walks, safety meetings, and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
  • Ensure all fiber installations meet quality standards, specifications, and client expectations, particularly in mission critical environments

 

Planning, Sequencing & Coordination

  • Develop and execute short-term and long-term work plans, ensuring proper sequencing of installation activities
  • Coordinate with general contractor, client stakeholders, and other trades to align schedules and avoid conflicts
  • Partner with project engineers and field engineers to ensure materials, equipment, and labor are aligned with project needs

 

Subcontractor Management

  • Oversee and manage subcontractor performance, ensuring adherence to contract scope, safety, and quality expectations
  • Track production, provide direction, and address performance gaps proactively
  • Ensure proper manpower planning and resource allocation to meet project milestones

 

Technical & Documentation Oversight

  • Interpret and execute work based on construction drawings, specifications, and design documents
  • Ensure accurate as-built documentation, redlines, and turnover packages are maintained
  • Support resolution of field issues, RFIs, and design clarifications

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in fiber optic construction, with progressive leadership experience in the field
  • Proven experience leading OSP and/or ISP fiber installation crews

Strong working knowledge of: 

  • Conduit and innerduct systems
  • Fiber installation, splicing, and testing
  • Data center fiber infrastructure (racks, pathways, patching)

Experience managing: 

  • Daily construction activities and field execution
  • Manpower coordination and production tracking
  • Subcontractor oversight
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication skills with ability to coordinate across field teams, GC, and client stakeholders

 

Preferred

  • Experience working on large-scale data center or mission critical projects
  • Background in design-build or EPC environments
  • Familiarity with commissioning, turnover, and high-performance facility standards
  • OSHA certifications or equivalent safety training
