Position Overview
Reporting to the Medical Manager, the Emergency Response Medic will serve as a key member of the project's Emergency Response Team (ERT), providing hands-on emergency medical response and supporting overall site emergency preparedness for the SMR-X construction program.
This position is intended for an experienced emergency response professional with a background in EMS/EMT, fire service, FEMA or disaster response, industrial emergency response, or a comparable high-risk emergency response environment. The Emergency Response Medic will be prepared to respond rapidly to medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, fires, confined-space incidents, high-angle rescue events, and other emergency situations that may occur within a large, complex construction environment.
The successful candidate will bring strong field-based emergency response experience and the ability to remain calm, decisive, and effective during high-consequence events. In addition to providing direct medical care, this individual will support emergency planning, drills, training, rescue readiness, equipment inspections, and coordination with local emergency services.
This is a hands-on field emergency response position requiring a high level of medical preparedness, situational awareness, physical capability, and the ability to operate effectively within an Incident Command System.

Location
The position will be based on our project in Abilene, TX. This is a site-based position supporting active construction operations. Candidates must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including the potential for night shift, weekends, overtime, and alternate shift schedules based on project and emergency response coverage needs.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary on-site emergency medical responder for injuries, illnesses, trauma events, and other medical emergencies occurring across the project.
- Provide immediate patient assessment, triage, stabilization, first aid, and emergency medical care within the individual's level of training and certification.
- Respond to emergency incidents including medical emergencies, fires, confined-space events, falls from elevation, high-angle rescue situations, and other construction-related emergencies.
- Coordinate patient transfer and transportation with local EMS, hospitals, fire departments, and other external emergency response agencies.
- Support the project's Emergency Response Team and maintain a high level of readiness for rapid deployment to incidents throughout the site.
- Participate within the project's Incident Command System (ICS) during emergency events and exercises.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of site emergency response plans and procedures.
- Support task-specific emergency and rescue planning for high-risk activities including confined-space entry, elevated work, hot work, energized environments, and complex construction activities.
- Participate in confined-space, high-angle, technical rescue, fire response, and medical response operations based on training and qualifications.
- Conduct routine inspections of medical supplies, trauma kits, AEDs, rescue equipment, emergency vehicles, fire-response equipment, and other emergency response resources.
- Ensure emergency medical and rescue equipment remains stocked, inspected, accessible, and ready for immediate use.
- Lead and participate in emergency response drills, tabletop exercises, simulations, and field-based rescue scenarios.
- Provide emergency medical, first aid, CPR/AED, and response-readiness training or coaching to project personnel as qualified.
- Assist with maintaining training records, certifications, inspection documentation, response logs, and other emergency preparedness records.
- Maintain awareness of changing project conditions, high-risk work activities, site access points, evacuation routes, and potential emergency hazards.
- Coordinate closely with Safety, Security, Operations, site supervision, local EMS, fire departments, hospitals, and other emergency-response partners.
- Support emergency response investigations, after-action reviews, and lessons-learned activities following incidents and drills.
- Promote a culture of emergency preparedness and encourage employees to recognize and report conditions that could create an emergency situation.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional emergency response experience in one or more of the following:
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS), including EMT or paramedic experience
- Municipal, industrial, military, or wildland fire service
- FEMA, disaster response, or emergency management operations
- Industrial emergency response teams
- Search and rescue or technical rescue operations
- Comparable emergency-response experience in a high-risk environment
- Demonstrated experience responding to real-world emergency incidents, rather than solely providing administrative safety or emergency-planning support.
- Current or previously held EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, firefighter, or comparable emergency medical/response certification strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience assessing and responding to medical emergencies and traumatic injuries.
- Experience working within an Incident Command System (ICS) or comparable emergency-command structure.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively during high-stress, time-sensitive, and potentially life-threatening situations.
- Strong understanding of emergency medical response, scene safety, patient assessment, triage, stabilization, and coordination of higher-level medical care.
- Ability and willingness to participate in physically demanding emergency-response and rescue activities.
- Strong verbal communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, or equivalent emergency medical certification.
- Current CPR/AED and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Firefighter I/II or comparable fire-service training.
- FEMA or Incident Command System training such as ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-400, IS-700, and/or IS-800.
- Confined-space rescue certification or documented rescue-team experience.
- High-angle or technical rope rescue training.
- Hazardous materials / HAZMAT response training.
- Experience supporting an industrial Emergency Response Team (ERT).
- Experience coordinating with municipal fire, EMS, law enforcement, hospitals, or emergency-management agencies.
- Experience supporting emergency response operations on large, complex, multi-employer construction sites.
