TICP - QTO Takeoff Engineer

Position Overview

The QTO (Quantity Takeoff) Engineer is responsible for developing accurate quantity takeoffs, bills of materials, and quantity-based deliverables to support estimating, project planning, and construction execution. This position works closely with Estimating, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls, and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) teams to ensure project quantities are accurately identified, tracked, and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

The QTO Takeoff Engineer utilizes IFC drawings, specifications, isometrics, 3D models, and other project documentation to generate and manage project quantities, supporting both estimate development and field execution. The role requires strong technical understanding of construction disciplines, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across multiple project stakeholders.

District Overview

TIC Power (TICP) is a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation that provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a non-union craft force. Strength in estimating and pre-project planning. Constructing cogeneration, combined-cycle, geothermal and waste-to-energy generation and resource facilities. TIC Power builds major EPC power plant projects throughout North America.

This position is located in Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using IFC drawings, specifications, vendor documents, isometrics, and 3D models.
• Develop and maintain accurate bills of materials and quantity-based deliverables.
• Generate project quantities to support estimate development, project controls, and construction planning activities.
• Create, update, and manage quantity databases and quantity tracking systems.
• Upload and maintain component-level quantities within project management and quantity tracking systems.
• Review engineering deliverables and identify scope changes that impact quantities.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Project Controls teams to validate project quantities and assumptions.
• Participate in quantity reconciliation and quantity comparison reviews.
• Support Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and work package development efforts.
• Monitor and track drawing revisions and incorporate quantity changes as design evolves.
• Assist in creation of reports and dashboards related to quantity metrics and project performance.
• Support estimate reviews and provide quantity backup documentation.
• Conduct field and project team coordination meetings as required.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation within quantity takeoff processes.
• Maintain compliance with company procedures, standards, and quality requirements.
• Travel to project sites as required to gather information and validate project scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, isometrics, P&IDs, one-line diagrams, and 3D models.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative project environment.
