Position Overview

Our TIC division provides world-class construction services for major industrial projects across North America. This team supports EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Water and Wastewater treatment, Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Manufacturing, Industrial Buildings, Automotive and will support our emerging Industrial Market areas like Data Centers, Semiconductors and EV Battery plants.  We integrate in-house engineering solutions and self-perform construction operations, and offer full-project-delivery solutions provider for projects of all sizes.  We are hiring a Piping Estimator to support construction piping estimates, for a broad portfolio of projects.  In this role you will be responsible for taking client requested RFP scope of work and incorporating solutions from our Industrial Estimating group to produce quality pipe estimates for a given Client RFP.  Core objectives include but not limited to: functional understanding and interpretation of RFP documents, application of company historical rate and production information, and foster the development and growth of the estimating department staff through mentoring and improved work processes to meet the needs of industrial clients. #LI-WJ1

District Overview

TIC is a Kiewit Subsidiary that provides direct-hire construction services for industrial projects. TIC Denver has projects in Power, Industrial Manufacturing, Oil Gas Chemical, and Mining across the United States. Its projects range from small capital work up to major EPC projects. We are looking for people committed to the construction industry in an “open-shop” environment. 

Location

This position is located in our Lone Tree, Colorado office and may require occasional travel to project sites or other Kiewit offices.  We offer relocation assistance to the area.  

Responsibilities

  • Perform a complete discipline estimate from receipt of bid package through final bid review including but not limited to: site visits, scope determination, MTO, input data into computerized estimating systems, questions to Owner/Engineer and qualifications.
  • Manage the available bid time to insure accurate and timely preparation of a complete estimate.
  • Must read and understand specifications and Piping related P&ID’s and Drawings and develop notes for the unique or extraordinary items.
  • Assist more Senior Estimators with performing conceptual estimates from experience and knowledge of piping.
  • Know how to build the project (best practices, sequence, geographical challenges etc.). Work with discipline leads to formulate a plan that includes all lessons learned and costs and put that plan to paper.
  • Understand what deliverables by discipline are required and assure that the bidding schedule is met.
  • Assist Sr. Estimators to ensure we are pricing the “lowest cost” in a pipe estimate. 
  • Facilitate Cross-Discipline Communication as needed to assure cross discipline items are included properly.
  • Review estimates prepared by other inter- company estimating groups to determine data completeness and procedures; aid in resolving differences in bid items.
  • Capable of handling major technical problems encountered during bid preparation and          problem solve during the estimate timeline. 
  • Stay current on various trends and developments such as new equipment, means & methods, and procedures developing in the industry or specialized discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, etc.). 
  • Research, review and understand Industrial project past cost company data for benchmarking as used and applied to estimates.
  • Monitor Key Estimate Metrics - Be aware of and monitor key estimating metrics that are looked at by Senior Management and ensure that the estimate falls within the accepted boundaries.  Be able to explain any metrics that may fall outside these accepted boundaries.
  • Provide schedule information for loading with schedulers.
  • Communicate critical issues and estimate assumptions up to the Manager as they arise to ensure everyone is on the same page for the reviews to eliminate late changes.
  • Schedule and prepare for the estimate reviews as required within the organization.
  • Conduct a detailed formal review of subcontracts, and permanent material pricing in coordination with Kiewit Supply Network procurement support personnel.
  • Prepare special studies or reports required by the unusual nature of some bids and best explains curtain items or conditions. 
  • Assist more Sr. Estimators in formulating the procurement of materials RFP from piping take-offs and subcontracting strategy working with our internal KSN-Kiewit Supply Network support personnel.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical, Civil or construction-related technology, OR at least 7+ years of related self-perform construction experience working in a Field Engineering, or Superintendent role where you are working closely with construction teams with experience supporting estimates and have a good understanding of what it takes to estimating a project.  
  • Prefer at least years or more estimating experience for construction.  Experience working with piping, and able to read and understand specifications and piping P&ID's and drawings required
  • Experience with estimating software like Hard Dollar, or similar software
  • Extensive knowledge through demonstrated experience of heavy industrial construction, especially industrial projects.
  • Strong attention to detail; strong communication, interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and able to conduct a formal review of subcontracts and material pricing
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Base Compensation: $90,000 - $115,000 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
