Position Overview
As a Civil Quality Inspector on the KBP Project (Spread 5B), Transmountain Project, you will be responsible for carrying out inspections site inspections, site quality monitoring, and surveillance pertaining to earthworks, trenching, backfill, soil compation, and soil testing. To maximize your effectiveness, you must develop a thorough understanding of the project scope, reading drawings, writing site surveillance quality reports, inspecting civil works, preparing inspection and test plans, preparing inspection checklists, and understand NCR management. You will also perform other duties as directed by your supervisor to meet project quality requirements.
District Overview
Kiewit’s Western Canada District is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. Location
Western Canada District is headquarted in Burnaby, British Columbia.
The Spread 5B project, is located in Hope, British Columbia. This project involves a rotational schedule.
Responsibilities
- Develop an understanding of project scope and quality requirements as they pertain to your specific area of responsibility.
- Study and understand the Project Quality Plan and Inspection and Test Plans, understand Hold and Witness point Inspections assigned within the ITP.
- Perform/verify inspections and tests at the required frequency in the assigned area.
- Coordinate with operations to schedule quality inspections and tests to maintain production goals.
- Prepare inspection/test reports and maintain the quality files related to area of responsibility.
- Maintain effective communications (both orally and written) with supervisor, coworkers and the project management team.
- Communicate Inspection and Test results to the project team with accurate and complete documentation.
- Organize quality documents and assist in compilation of project turnover documentation.
- Identify and report nonconforming work in accordance with the company quality standards and the project quality plan.
- Verify nonconforming work is completed as per agreed resolution.
- Perform source and receiving inspection of permanent materials and plant equipment for project requirements as required.
- Actively involved in monthly/weekly site Quality tours and preparation of reports
Additional Responsibilities
- Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
- Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective actions to eliminate or minimize hazards.
- Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens.)
- Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in safe manner.
- Be motivated and work productively.
Qualifications
- Ability to travel and relocate as needed
- Must be a self-starter, be organized and have good interpersonal skills.
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering technology or science plus two years of experience in a related construction field (at least one of these years in a QA/QC position); or a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) plus four years of experience in a related construction field (at least two of these years in a QA/QC position).
- Working knowledge of the specific trade of discipline you are assigned to with associated special processes, inspection, and testing techniques.
- Working knowledge of construction industry codes relating to your area of expertise such as DBSS (Design, build standard specification for Highway construction) 2018.
- Working knowledge of construction industry codes ASTM C136, D422, D698, D1140, D1214, D4318, and company provided standard operating procedures.
- Added value will be certifications from AWS, NACE, API etc.
