Position Overview

As a Safety Manager, you will manage our Health, Safety, and Environmental programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work. You must be a self-starter, highly motivated, with the ability to work with minimal supervision. This position requires someone with the ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding our policies, procedures, and software programs. 
 

District Overview

Ganotec is a full service, heavy industrial contractor serving the industrial sector across Canada. Ganotec typically self performs all major disciplines including, civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical equipment installation, process piping and electrical / instrumentation and controls. We conduct our business through a variety of commercial contract styles including full turnkey, EPC, design build, T&M and conventional discipline packages. Location

The project is based in Vaughan, Ontario. The GTA Fuel Expansion project entails constructing and expanding the current rail car offloading facility and fuel storage tanks. The project site is in the Greater Toronto Area (Vaughan); the planned duration of the project is approximately eighteen months 
 

Responsibilities

  • Communicate between Ganotec and client management regarding safety matters. 
  • Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications. 
  • Perform incident investigations, reporting, and follow through with corrective actions. 
  • Manage the safety program of an oil and gas construction projects. 
  • Develop and implement leading indicator action plans. 
  • Manage and lead a team of safety coordinators and technicians. 
  • Interact with clients and maintain positive relationships with the client team. 
  • Routinely inspect the facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and ensure safety regulation compliance. 
  • Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed. 
  • Write, organize, and implement the jobsite safety plans. 
  • Perform daily reviews and inspections of the jobsite to assure compliance with federal, provincial, client, and Ganotec policies. 
  • Coordinate and present safety training to support company and client requirements, including planning, documentation, and presentation. 
  • Attend the weekly safety meeting, weekly supervisor safety meeting, and daily Tool Box meetings, as required. 
  • Coordinate with the home office Safety Department on overall program, project training needs, injury management, citation management, OH&S reporting requirements, and other applicable matters. 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience managing large construction and industrial projects, including oil and gas. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity. 
  • Knowledge of construction safety, current local and federal regulations, hazard recognition, record keeping, and injury management skills. 
  • Ability to carry out duties in varying environments, including wide-ranging weather conditions and terrain.  #LI-IS1
