Position Overview

As a Structural Estimator, you will prepare, review, and present discipline estimates for specific project proposal activities. In this role, you will provide estimating assistance and guidance to projects, develop conceptual estimates, and perform cost analysis. You will be responsible for assisting in the development of discipline estimates, developing, and updating historical databases, and assisting in the development of department procedures. You will provide direction to others on estimating specific level tasks as required.

District Overview

Ganotec typically self performs all major disciplines including, civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical equipment installation, process piping and electrical / instrumentation and controls. We conduct our business through a variety of commercial contract styles including full turnkey, EPC, design build, T&M and conventional discipline packages. Location

This position is based in our office in Oakville.

Responsibilities

  • Determine installation quantities based on drawings and specifications
  • Prepare cost estimates on work for major projects locally and across Canada 
  • Develop comprehensive estimates for large and complex works
  • Review the owner's plans and specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop a plan for actual construction as the basis for the estimate
  • Review all tender and contract documents and advice from the home office legal department
  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposal team
  • Prepare and present your estimate to management and external clients
  • Maintain a professional and trustworthy relationship with clients, professionals, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Collaborate with estimate team on continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience in structural estimation with relevant industry background
  • 5+ years of experience in structural estimating for major construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian construction market, especially in structural systems and materials
  • Excellent communication skills in English; French is considered an asset
  • Effective presentation and negotiation abilities
  • Advanced computer proficiency; experience with MS Office and Bluebeam is an asset
  • Experience in industrial, hydro, oil & gas, and mining sectors is an asset
  • Willingness to travel to project sites or client meetings as required for estimate-specific needs
  • Highly organized, adaptable, team-oriented, detail-focused, and capable of managing multiple tasks
  • Ability to prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
