Position Overview

Kiewit is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Early Career Surveyor to join our McNally District team. In this role, you will support survey field operations on transportation and infrastructure projects while working alongside experienced survey professionals. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or individuals early in their surveying careers to gain hands-on experience with industry-leading technology, learn best practices in construction surveying, and develop their technical and professional skills in a fast-paced construction environment.

 

You will spend the majority of your time in the field assisting with survey activities, collecting data, maintaining project records, and supporting layout operations to ensure work is performed safely, accurately, and efficiently.

Location

This position will be based on our West Vaughan Sewage Tunnel project in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and support Kiewit's safety culture in all aspects of work.
  • Assist with the implementation of project survey plans and field activities.
  • Support survey layout operations and field measurements.
  • Collect, record, and maintain accurate field notes, sketches, and survey documentation.
  • Verify survey measurements and assist with data quality checks.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining survey control networks.
  • Support the preparation of survey reports, drawings, and project documentation.
  • Help maintain and care for survey equipment, ensuring proper calibration and operation.
  • Work collaboratively with field engineers, project teams, and construction crews.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to build surveying knowledge and technical skills.

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate or upcoming graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Geomatics Engineering, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Internship, co-op, or summer construction experience is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of surveying principles, coordinate systems, and construction practices is an asset.
  • Experience with GPS equipment, robotic total stations, Trimble, Leica, or similar surveying technologies is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other design and drafting software is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Flexibility to travel or relocate based on project needs.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning.

Base Compensation: $75,555/yr - $83,508/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
