Position Overview

McNally Construction Inc. is looking for an Estimator to join our winning team! This position will assist in the calculation of material quantity requirements, gathering and preparing routine estimating data and compiling data for use in bid proposal estimates.

District Overview

McNally Construction Inc., a subsidiary of Weeks Marine Inc., is a heavy/civil construction company that specializes tunneling and marine construction. McNally has been successfully completing projects throughout the Canada ranging in cost from $350,000 to $400+Mil.

Location

This role is located at our Hamilton, ON office.

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop complete detailed estimates for large, complex jobs in underground and marine construction
  • Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate
  • Review of project specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Perform quality take-offs when applicable, if not available possess the ability to complete the picture in developing a full detailed estimate
  • Review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions
  • Collaborate with other internal Estimators, Project Managers, and Executive Team when required
  • Present and reconcile estimates with design team and clients
  • Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions 
  • Consult with internal stakeholders on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.
  • Attend project meetings and site visits when required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Civil Engineering , Construction Management OR equivalent experience in heavy civil construction estimating Excellent knowledge of the Canadian construction market Advanced computer skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, AutoCad and BlueBeam software is an asset
  • 1-2 years' of construction estimating experience a plus
  • Will consider candidates with experience working on Underground or Marine projects that are interested in becoming an Estimator
  • TBM, Trenchless, Drill and Blast or related Underground/tunneling experience a plus
  • Must be able to complete contract deadlines.
  • This could require extended hours including nights/weekends to ensure the deadline is met 
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with complex projects is a plus
  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint); any experience with Hard Dollar estimating software a plus
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel up to 10%
