Position Overview

As a Mechanical Designer, you will design fire sprinkler systems that protect lives and property.

District Overview

Continental Fire Sprinkler Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, is a turnkey fire protection contractor headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Location

This position is based in Omaha, NE.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing fire protection plans (e.g. fire alarm and special hazard) for commercial and industrial projects
  • Review plans with all disciplines to ensure development of well-coordinated construction documents
  • Learn to review and interpret IFC requirements and NFPA standards

 

  • Interpret specifications, interface with on-site and remote cross functional project teams
  • Maintain project drawing files, associate records, and documentation tracking
  • Participate in construction administration activities such as reviewing submittals and performing construction punch lists
  • Procurement of all material required throughout the project
  • Identify changes in projects that impact cost, schedule, or labor requirements
  • Oversee cost management on projects to secure cost vs budget
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or equivalent training in Design & Drafting Technology (or currently in the process of receiving degree)
  • NICET Level I in Fire Alarm Systems will be required within 2 years of employment

 

  • Willingness to gain knowledge of industry codes, local codes, OHSA standards and rules, and labor to cost ratios
  • Detail orientated to effectively manage multiple complex tasks through the use of analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Positive and professional attitude with a strong work ethic and customer service skills
  • Highly motivated, proactive and reliable team player
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, collaborate with design professionals for training and other purposes.
Working Conditions

•     While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk and hear.  
•     Employee must occasionally lift and/or move computers, documents and books up to 30 pounds similar to those normally found in an engineering office environment. 
•     The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
