Position Overview

As a Fire Protection Designer, you will be responsible for designing sprinkler systems for our clients' facilities. 


District Overview

Continental Fire Sprinkler Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, is a turnkey fire protection contractor headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. This position is based out of our regional office in Hanover, MD.


Assist in developing fire protection plans (e.g.sprinkler systems) for commercial and industrial projects

Review plans with all disciplines to ensure development of well-coordinated construction documents

Learn to review and interpret IFC requirements and NFPA standards

Interpret specifications, interface with on-site and remote cross functional project teams

Maintain project drawing files, associate records, and documentation tracking

Participate in construction administration activities such as reviewing submittals and performing construction punch lists

Procurement of all material required throughout the project

Identify changes in projects that impact cost, schedule, or labor requirements

Oversee cost management on projects to secure cost vs budget


Associate's degree or equivalent training in Design & Drafting Technology plus three or more years' Fire Sprinkler Design experience

NICET Level III certification

Willingness to gain knowledge of industry codes, local codes, OHSA standards and rules, and labor to cost ratios

Detail orientated to effectively manage multiple complex tasks through the use of analytical thinking and problem solving

Positive and professional attitude with a strong work ethic and customer service skills

Highly motivated, proactive and reliable team player

Excellent communication skills – written and verbal and interpersonal skills

Willingness to travel to project sites, collaborate with design professionals for training and other purposes.

Working Conditions

Fast-paced office environment; must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while simultaneously managing a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively; regularly sit, stand, walk and talk and listen; occasionally lift and move up objects up to 30 pounds.
