Position Overview

We are seeking a highly talented and motivated individual for the position of Assistant General Counsel in the insured litigation section within our Strategic Resolutions Group.  The Strategic Resolutions Group sits within our Legal Department and is responsible for managing to resolution all litigation, claims, insured matters, government investigations, and other actual or potential disputes.  This role will be primarily focused on personal injury and property damage claims that the Company encounters through its operations, and the associated coverage and defense issues.  The complexity of the work this group is unique, with matters often involving large sums in dispute arising out of some of the largest high-profile construction projects being built in North America today.   #LI-WJ1

Location

Preference is that this position be based out of our Omaha, NE location. We are also willing to consider the right candidate to be based out of our Lenexa, KS location.  These are both shared service centers in a professional office setting. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial case assessment and review of relevant facts and applicable law to provide early accurate case/matter risk assessments. 
  • Participate as an integral member of our teams in the development of detailed claims and defense strategies.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel, internal resources and external experts on the resolution of claims, disputes and other matters.   
  • Coordinate resolution strategy with the internal stakeholders and subject matter experts. 
  • Responsible for strategic management of assigned legal matters in collaboration with internal and external resources and stakeholders.  
  • Represent the company in its interfaces with various government agencies such as OSHA.
  • Assist in the development of robust policies and procedures designed to share lessons learned with a focus on enhanced communication and collaboration across the Legal Department.
     

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in a state bar association
  • 7 years of demonstrated legal experience with a law firm, corporate legal department, or public law department where the work was primarily litigation-related or involved claim or case development or management.  Helpful, but not necessary, to have background in construction law, government contracts or government investigations.
  • Flexibility to travel as necessary to support the needs and demands of the work.
  • Excellent legal analysis and communication skills; with the ability to clearly and concisely express and explain complex legal issues and analysis to colleagues as well as non-lawyers including executive management.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving.  
  • Self-driven and collaborative to achieve goals independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules and priorities.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and meeting facilitation skills
