Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering has an opening for a dynamic Experienced Marine Engineer in our Temporary Works Group. The ideal candidate will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, marine engineering calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe. With recent acquisitions and market growth Kiewit is poised to be a premier marine contractor throughout North America. Our Temporary Works Group consists of innovative design engineers whose expertise in designing and building temporary structures adds value to the success of our clients’ projects.

 

Our Temporary Works group supports design-build  projects by providing analysis, design, and oversight for marine-related temporary works including the following: Temporary bridges and trestles, Cofferdams, Bridge falsework, Overwater and floating marine construction platform, Barges and derricks, Heavy lifting devices, Pile picking devices, Pile driving templates, Marine Bulkheads, Marine shoring systems, Critical crane lifts, Erection sequencing & staged construction analysis, Hoisting and jacking, Deep foundations and dewatering, Excavation support, Pile drive analysis, estimate support, Working surface design, and On-site engineering support.

This position can be based out of our  Lone Tree, CO Engineering HQ.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design reviews and evaluate constructability. Independently performs work that requires conventional engineering but may also perform more complex engineering work with higher level technical supervision. Conduct technical evaluations of structural analysis and load calculations to ensure the sound design and compliance meeting requirements. 
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. 
  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. 
  • Design and prepare engineering calculations, drawings and reports and related documentation, and devises charts and graphs to record results.
  • Utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for reviewing and compiling information for data entry and transferring files and electronic/digital scans. Experience in maintaining, organizing, tracking the status, and prioritizing engineering documents (both physical and electronic records). 
  • Resolve technical issues and manage information generated through the design and construction phases of multiple and concurrent projects. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of and practices of related specialties carried out by others. 
  • Work closely with junior and senior engineers to research compliance specifications and technical design issues including, but not limited to, hydrostatics, stability, structural engineering, soil-structure interactions, to report findings and to recommend possible solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field is required.
  • Marine background and experience is required. 
  • Professional Engineer licensure or eligibility within Canada or the United States.
  • 5+ years is preferred marine / naval / structural engineering experience preferred. 
  • Experience with design of waterfront structures such as wharves, marine cofferdams, basic naval architecture such as simple stability analysis, roll-on roll-off, and marine transport all preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical drawings, industry journals, documents & regulations such as ABS, Lloyds, DMV etc., and industry standards such as CSA, AISC, ACI, etc.
  • Specific technical knowledge of hydrostatics, vessel stability, soil-structure interaction, and structural analysis.
  • Experience with engineering design software will be an advantage; this includes AutoCAD, BlueBeam, MathCAD, Revit, RISA-3D, General HydroStatics (GHS) etc.
  • Experience with working in a team setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to organize and handle multiple project assignments.
  • Ability to travel/TDY assignments and/or relocate based on business needs.
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment.

Base Compensation: $120,998 - $168,653

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
