Position Overview

We are an innovative team of engineers and designers that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff leads and collaborates with Kiewit’s module fabrication and construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.

This position focuses on the front-end and detailed process design engineering in the markets which seek to produce various fuels from renewable feedstocks, such as renewable diesel (RD), sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), e-Methanol and more. The candidate must be experienced with diesel hydrotreating, and the process units for the pretreatment of feedstocks and associated utilities requirements. They must be comfortable supporting process technologies outside of their base expertise, and evaluation of new technologies.

Location

This position is based out of our Energy Corridor Office in Houston, TX and typically requires less than 25 percent travel. Opportunities for flexible work are available. 

Responsibilities

•    Prepare process engineering deliverables including process simulations, heat and material balances, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, line and equipment sizing, and other deliverables necessary to define the process requirements.
•    Specify scope and technical requirements for internal use and technology providers in relevant process technologies.
•    Perform technical evaluations for selection of technology providers.
•    Improve existing processes by using different approaches/methods.
•    Review supplier technical documents for compliance with project specifications.
•    Develop criteria, guidelines, and best practices for the unit processes to provide for a safe, efficient, cost-effective, and reliable facility.
•    Support of construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
•    Proactively identify gaps in design, provide potential solutions and cost/benefit analysis. 
•    Develop mid- to major-sized project or proposals with no supervision.
•    Review and correct the work of engineers and designers to develop documents as needed.
•    Resolve conflicting requirements and approaches across disciple lines as needed.
•    Lead others in project objectives consistent with that of the organization.
•    Seek out industry experts when niche skill sets are required.
•    Manage several different assignments simultaneously.
•    Collaborate with others, internally and externally, to determine optimal solutions.
•    Serve as Kiewit representative in external industry organizations and committees.
•    Serve as a resource to less experienced engineers.
•    Identify gaps in team and proactively work to resolve.
•    Commitment to safety, ethics, and integrity.
•    Actively seeks feedback from customers and takes action to improve processes.  
•    Work with project team as representative and coordinates work within discipline department.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
•    At least 10 years of experience in process technologies for pretreatment and hydrotreating processes to produce relevant products.
•    Strong understanding of underlying engineering principles and best practices.
•    Advanced knowledge of work processes to produce process engineering deliverables.
•    Clear interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
•    Strong critical thinking skills.
•    Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management skills.
