Position Overview

The Immigration Paralegal will prepare or file online all USCIS forms and draft supporting legal letters for all types of visas/applications/petitions.  This is a global immigration role with the majority of the responsibilities related to the US, Canada and Mexico immigration.

District Overview

HR Operations is an integral partner and service provider at Kiewit.  In recent years, we have gone from decentralized HR groups to a unified, shared service team, with various HR Centers of Excellence.  Our vision is to be a best-in-class international HR organization. 


This position can be based out of Omaha NE or Lenexa, KS. This is a shared service center in a professional office setting.


  • Develop and implement strategic and operational changes to program’s policies, processes and procedures
  • Manage immigration projects and programs, including H-1B cap season, L-1 transfers, PERM and green card sponsorship program, worksite compliance and contingency planning options for known programs and in response to new policies
  • Address client case status inquiries, including steps in process remaining, processing times, and consular appointment issues
  • Coordinating paperwork related to papers for immigration or citizenship, including affidavits, petitions, applications
  • Collaborate with recruiting, HR and hiring managers to create an efficient approach to recruiting and onboarding foreign talent
  • Manage and work with internal/external legal counsel. Assisting and supporting attorney in the preparation and filing of immigration applications, including immigrant visa petitions, applications for permanent residency, naturalization applications, including PERMs, Preference Petitions and Adjustment of Status Applications
  • Monitor active cases and provide timely immigration-related updates to key stakeholders about any regulatory changes affecting the Company
  • Provide immigration data and metrics to internal stakeholders as needed
  • Assist with business visitor review and documentation
  • Prepare job descriptions
  • Prepare responses to audit requests
  • Maintain calendars, provide attorney billing/invoice processing support, complete reports and enter time records and create new file and update client matter reports


  • Customer service oriented with a demonstrated desire to partner with others, ability to serve multiple customers and deliver an excellent client experience
  • Ability to explain immigration processes to various audiences
  • Familiarity with I-9 requirements and the E-verify process
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with various technology platforms, including Office 365, Document Management Systems and PDF Software
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written English
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Initiative, team orientation and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in exercising independent judgement and discretion when using company policies and practices to analyze situations, spot potential issues and determine appropriate action


Educational Requirements

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Prior experience with employment-based immigration, including nonimmigrant and immigrant cases, preferably in-house. 
  • Paralegal Certificate a plus
