Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering has an immediate opening for a dynamic Design Manager in our growing Design Build Management Group based in Little Rock, AR, US. The Design Manager will work on an interdisciplinary team including: geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, roadway engineers, estimators, schedulers and construction experts to perform engineering analysis, design, and estimates in support of design-build pursuits and ongoing projects.

You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail/transit and systems, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-driven engineers analyze root causes and resolve design issues before they impact schedule and budget. Particularly on large design-build projects, clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff shares experiences gained, innovative concepts, and design best practices for all projects that we support.

Location

This role will initially support a major design-build infrastructure project in Little Rock, AR (for approximately 3 years before next assignment). Responsibilities
  • Implements the ESDC Management Plan, reporting to Project Design Manager or Project Manager
  • Facilitates effective communication between remote design staff and on-site project staff
  • Plans and coordinates design activities in support of construction operations, including utilizing project’s electronic document management system to manage backlog of ESDC activities
  • Has a detailed understanding of all contractual obligations for the project to ensure design requirements of the contract are met
  • Interfaces with Client’s design oversight manager and coordinates client review and approvals
  • Supports construction operations planning and project scheduling
  • Understands construction schedule to prioritize design activities and plan engineering staff resources 
  • Connects appropriate Kiewit Engineering specialists to the project
  • Administers subconsultant designer subcontracts and task orders
  • Leads on-site ESDC field engineers, and supports and coordinates with project field engineers and temporary structures engineers
  • Participates in project risk identification and mitigation
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and captures lessons learned
Qualifications
  • 8+ years’ experience in transportation design or construction, minimum 3 years design-build experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and registered, or eligible to register, in Arkansas and Colorado
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience working in Bentley ProjectWise environment and able to review and interpret digital design files 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
  • Ability to travel as business requires
