Kiewit’s Power Delivery department has an exciting opportunity for a Utility Telecommunications Engineer in our Lenexa, KS office to serve as a lead engineer on telecommunications infrastructure projects. The Telecommunications Engineer will be responsible for engineering and technical oversight of communications network designs and associated subsystems.

Primary Responsibilities
• Scope, estimate, plan and design Telecom system for transmission line and substation projects
• Develop documents, drawings / diagrams, specifications, and testing procedures for utility Telecommunication systems
• Design networks using fiber optics, microwave, radio, leased service, or cellular utilizing client standards or developing new standards.
• Create bills of materials for Telecommunication equipment, ordering materials and coordinating construction activities
• Write project scope(s), sequencing plans, client roadmaps, and budgets
• Travel to the site to gather information and to coordinate with client team, external contractors and internal project teams
• Coordinate, stage and plan installation and commissioning with clients and subcontractors
• Respond to information requests from the client and leading team meetings
• Work with the project manager to establish project schedule and coordinate with the engineering team to meet deadlines
• Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members
• Other duties as assigned

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from an accredited program
• Must have a minimum of 4 years of design experience on critical communication systems
• Must be capable of applying knowledge of telecommunication principles and business practices
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated, yet a team player
• Flexibility to work in other Infrastructure, Power, Water, or Power Delivery business lines if required
• Professional Engineering (PE) registration preferred
• Previous consulting experience preferred
• Previous utility company experience preferred
• Travel less than 10% with some overnight stays
