Position Overview

The Yard Manager is responsible for the overall operation, compliance, and financial performance of the Wilmington, NC support yard. The yard serves as a critical logistics and material hub supporting dredging projects along the Central Atlantic Coast and is strategically located to stage materials and avoid transit challenges associated with Diamond Shoals.

This role oversees daily yard operations, supervises two employees (one crane operator and one laborer), ensures compliance with safety, environmental, MAP, and U.S. Coast Guard requirements, manages yard tenants, and drives revenue generation through third-party use of the yard. The position also carries responsibility for cost tracking, project bill-outs, and maintaining an accurate yard P&L.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations of the Wilmington support yard, including receipt, storage, staging, and shipment of dredging materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Control and track all materials, supplies, and equipment moving into and out of the yard.
• Supervise two yard employees and assign daily work activities.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and operationally ready yard.
• Serve as the primary safety lead and ensure compliance with company safety programs, OSHA standards, and applicable marine regulations.
• Ensure adherence to Kiewit environmental requirements and all Mitigation Action Plan (MAP) obligations.
• Conduct and submit weekly Vessel General Permit (VGP) inspections for all vessels and barges at the yard.
• Ensure subline rafts are inspected and properly lighted in accordance with internal standards and U.S. Coast Guard requirements.
• Manage tenant relationships, including Moran Tugs and short-term construction tenants.
• Pursue revenue opportunities through third-party use of yard, dock, and storage space.
• Track yard costs and revenues and maintain an accurate Profit & Loss (P&L) statement.
• Ensure proper bill-out of labor and equipment so yard costs are recovered through project estimates.
• Coordinate with project and accounting teams to ensure accurate cost allocation and billing.
• Oversee safe operation and basic maintenance of yard equipment.
• Act as the primary point of contact between projects, tenants, environmental staff, and accounting.

Qualifications

Required
• Experience in yard operations, dredging, marine construction, or heavy civil construction.
• Prior supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of safety and environmental compliance in industrial or marine environments.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred
• Experience with crane operations and marine logistics.
• Experience managing tenants or third-party industrial yard users.
• Experience with cost tracking, billing, or P&L responsibility.

Working Conditions
