Position Overview

As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a key role in transforming engineering concepts into practical, field-ready solutions. You’ll collaborate with engineers, port engineers, and technical equipment managers to develop detailed design projects from initial concept through final fabrication. This role requires a hands-on approach, including quality control oversight and occasional travel to job sites to support deployment. You’ll manage multiple assignments simultaneously, ensuring critical design milestones are met while maintaining compliance with ABS, USCG, and other relevant standards. Weeks provides a cohesive dredging services lifecycle, specializing in capital and maintenance dredging for deep or shallow draft navigation in addition to coastal restoration and protection.

Location

This position will be based out of our Covington, Louisiana office. 

Responsibilities

• Work closely with engineers, port engineers, and other technical equipment managers to manage and develop design projects from initial conceptual level through final fabrication level drawings

• Follow work from fabrication through to deployment in the field.

• Manage quality control of components and installation.

• Self-manage workload across multiple assignments. Identify and prioritize critical path work and engineering check points to keep multiple projects/designs moving forward.

• Maintain working knowledge of ABS and USCG rules and design criteria.

o 46 CFR subchapters F, I, M, and similar

o ABS Rules for Building and Classing Steel Barges

• Maintain working knowledge of other common codes and standards.

o AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code

• Travel to job sites as needed

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of related experience preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or industrial design discipline required

• Strong proficiency with CAD software (AUTOCAD, SOLIDWORKS)

• Proficient skills in standard office software packages

• Possess a strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing techniques

Working Conditions

•     While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk and hear.  
•     Employee must occasionally lift and/or move computers, documents and books up to 30 pounds similar to those normally found in an engineering office environment. 
•     The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
