Position Overview
As a District Safety Manager, you will manage our Health, Safety and Environmental programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work. This position requires someone with the ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding our policies, procedures and software programs.
District Overview
Ganotec is a full service, heavy industrial contractor serving the industrial sector across Canada. Ganotec typically self performs all major disciplines including, civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical equipment installation, process piping and electrical / instrumentation and controls. We conduct our business through a variety of commercial contract styles including full turnkey, EPC, design build, T&M and conventional discipline packages. We have always been a strong proponent of “partnering”, working in collaboration with owners, major equipment suppliers and engineers at the early stages of the project development phase to allow for a more cost-effective execution strategy for the project. Location
This position is based out of our Montreal office but will provide support to different projects across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Ganotec, Provincial and Federal Health, Safety requirements and policies
- Create, promote, and provide guidance regarding H&S best practices and initiatives
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff on H&S issues
- Lead and participate the H&S committee
- Communicate between Ganotec and client management regarding safety matters
- Responsible for overseeing incident investigations reporting and follow through with corrective actions
- Participate in external and internal audits and corporate certifications
- Ensure consistency in Health & Safety programs across projects
- Routinely inspect the facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed.
- Train, coach, and mentor other H&S managers, agents, and coordinators
- Write, organize, and implement the jobsite safety plans.
- Build and foster a Safety culture at Ganotec
- Travel across Quebec
- Collaborate frequently with District and Area managers
- Proactively go to projects to assess and work with teams to improve
- Lead safety business plan initiatives for the district
Qualifications
- Bachelors or master’s degree in health & Safety, Environmental or Civil. Electrical, mechanical, Mining Engineer
- 7-10+ years' experience in a similar role
- Knowledge of construction safety, current local and federal regulations, hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills
- Excellent communication in French (oral and written) English is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity
- Experience in industrial, hydro, oil and gas and mining are a strong asset
