Position Overview

Reporting to the District Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management, you will be responsible for taking part in the implementation of Ganotec's prevention program and of the occupational health and safety (OHS) management systems, with the collaboration of the contractors and all stakeholders assigned to the project. As a safety coordinator, you will also play an important role in applying the OHSAS standards at the site.
District Overview
Ganotec is a full service, heavy industrial contractor serving the industrial sector across Canada. Ganotec typically self performs all major disciplines including, civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical equipment installation, process piping and electrical / instrumentation and controls. We conduct our business through a variety of commercial contract styles including full turnkey, EPC, design build, T&M and conventional discipline packages.
Location
Individuals selected for this position will be required to relocate or travel as assignments arise on various projects across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Support the project specific prevention program and the safe planning of operations and and driving a safety-oriented approach to work.
- Accompany supervisors on the field and provide coaching to help them develop their OHS skills, and do the same with craft workers.
- Routinely inspecting the facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Intervene with craft workers when safety guidelines are not followed and take immediate action;
- Participate actively in accident and incident investigations/analyses. Provide support and complete the documentation related to the investigation, when required.
- Coordinate and present safety training to support client requirements including: new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout, etc.
- Track training records to all safety training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors.
- Act as a representative of Ganotec at the project with the various relevant government agencies.
- Devote himself/herself entirely to his/her role in the prevention of accidents.
Qualifications
- 2 – 5 years of experience on construction sites
- ASP construction card, Health and safety on construction sites
- Construction site safety officer card (recognized by the CNESST) an asset
- Knowledge of the Construction Safety Code
- Must be fluently bilingual French and English
- Knowledge of construction health and safety, current requirements in Canada
- Ability to work in a team environment, to communicate effectively, to take decisions, achieve results and to prioritize.
- Candidates must possess a strong work ethic, good interpersonal skills; demonstrate good organizational and communication skills
- Candidates must be able to act independently with little or no supervision and be a team player
- Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
