Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer conducts research, plans and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, maintenance and repair of structural, mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.

This position is located at the Dredging Divisional Office in Covington, Louisiana.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyzes data, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application 
  • Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, machines, and mechanical, thermal, and hydraulic systems
  • Plans and directs engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems
  • Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and company specifications
  • Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment
  • Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software
  • Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
  • Provides Engineering services including advice, information, and drawings to various supervisors in maintenance and repair departments as well as on board personnel
  • Frequent equipment and jobsite visits and inspections

Qualifications

 

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience preferred, ideally in Marine Services or Construction industry 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Technical understanding of construction and maintenance of marine vessels
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and drawings
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common specific and technical journals
  • Proficient skills in standard office software packages
  • Ability to work a 50-hour work week, additional hours as needed
  • Willingness and ability to travel required
  • This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language
     

Certification/Licenses:   

  • Valid Driver’s license 
  • PE license preferred
