Continental, a division of Kiewit, has been in business for over 50 years and has the expertise, and resources to handle every aspect of fire sprinkler protection for any size project!  We have a great team of qualified professionals and are adding a Fire Sprinkler Designer to our team, to support all types of customers.  We are looking for an experienced designer with at least a two years experience in Fire Sprinkler design.  Our designers are involved in all stages of the projects, preparing fire protection installation drawings and hydraulic calculations, material stock-lists, visiting the construction jobsites to review actual field conditions, and troubleshooting installation conflicts in the field.   If you have design/drafting skills in fire protection & want to expand your skills by working on larger more complex projects which offer growth into Project Management roles - we would love to talk with you!   

 


We have experience working on all types of construction, however focus our efforts on large-scale Government & Commercial Buildings, Energy, Educational, Healthcare, Retail, Sports Facilities/Entertainment, High Rise Offices, Manufacturing, Casinos and Residential projects.  Our collaborative team of Designers & Project Manager's support work in various regions throughout the United Sates through design, installation, service and inspection of Fire Suppression systems.

Location

 

This position will be located in our Hanover, Maryland office location.  (This is not a remote position).  Relocation is offered for this position.  


 
Responsibilities

 

  • Design fire suppression systems including wet, dry, pre-action, special hazard systems
  • Perform detailed shop drawings (field installation drawings and hydraulic calculations), field engineering functions (on the jobsite support and review), and operation planning (field installation support)
  • Compile and prepare plan submittals (shop drawings) and material submittals for review by architects, engineers, clients, and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Coordinate fire sprinkler design in 3D with the building structure and other MEP subcontractors
  • Prepare project material stock lists to be used for material procurement
  • Assist with field engineering, troubleshooting and support for the installation operations on the jobsite
  • Prepare “as-built” drawings for in-house archive and client files.
  • General understanding of job costs related to engineering, material and fabrication, and labor

 

Qualifications

  • Associates or Mechanical degree in design, drafting, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related degree program, plus 2+ years performing detailed design/drafting for (Wet) Fire Sprinkler systems.
  • If no degree, must have 6+ years of experience in design/drafting of mechanical equipment  with at least 4 years on fire suppression/fire sprinkler systems and experience with hydraulic calculations for water flow.
  • Experience with AutoSPRINK, SprinkCAD or related Fire sprinkler software required.   
  • NICET certification strongly preferred
  • Experienced with MS Excel, Word, and AutoCAD required.  
  • High level of self-discipline, motivation, and ability to operate in a team environment with strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player, but able to work independently  
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative 
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt 
  • Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
